The destination account must have a valid W-8BEN if you are transferring US holdings. You cannot transfer shares between your ii accounts unless they are both registered to the same postcode. This rule does not apply to: Company accounts – directors authorised to trade on a company account can make transfers between it and a sole account with a different address. Trust accounts – you can transfer shares from a trust to beneficiaries with a different address. Transfers to resolve an estate – after an account holder has passed away, executors can transfer shares to beneficiaries to resolve the estate.

Q: Can I transfer cash into my spouse’s ISA?

You can make an internal cash transfer into your spouse’s ISA if you both reside at the same address. This typically takes between 2 and 5 working days.

You can transfer cash or shares between your accounts.

Before you can make an internal transfer, you need to link the accounts you are transferring to and from.

Transfer shares between your ii accounts

You cannot transfer shares to a SIPP or an ISA by internal transfer.

If you want to make an internal stock transfer to your ISA, you can make a ‘Bed & ISA’ transfer. This involves selling the shares in your trading account and then repurchasing them in your ISA.

To transfer shares between your accounts:

Select Cash & Transfers > Transfer in from the menu.
Scroll down and select account to account stock transfer. Then click continue.
Choose the accounts would you like to transfer from and to.
Select the investments you wish to transfer. The holdings displayed are those which are available for transfer. Please ensure there are no pending limit orders on any investment you wish to transfer.
Confirm your internal transfer.

We aim to transfer shares between accounts within 10 working days. You will receive an email notifying you when the transfer has been completed.

Important notes

Transfer cash between your ii accounts

You can transfer cash in any of the nine currencies available on our platform. However:

You can only transfer sterling into an ISA and SIPP.
You are unable to internally transfer cash from an ISA to a SIPP and from a SIPP to an ISA.
The minimum transfer into a SIPP is £100.

To make an internal cash transfer:

Select Cash & Transfers > Withdraw/transfer cash from your account menu.
Click on Internal Transfer.
Choose the accounts you wish to transfer from and to. Also, your chosen currency and amount.
By default, the Frequency is set to one-time but you can also change this to monthly. Please note the monthly option is not available for ISA accounts.
Tick the box to confirm you understand the conditions of your transfer. Then click Make Payment.
Confirm your transfer.

Internal cash transfers between linked accounts are immediate, so you should see the payment in your account straight away.

Account Linking: By linking multiple accounts, you can access all your accounts using just one username and password. This will also make it easier for us to identify you when you call us.

Please send us a secure message and select 'link my account'. You'll need to include the account number(s) you want to link in your message. Once your accounts are linked, you will need to use the username and password you have to access all of your accounts.

Please note that any internal transfers to an ISA will count towards your yearly ISA allowance.
