Steps to be taken when an account holder has passed away
We understand that dealing with the death of a loved one is difficult, so we will try and make things as easy as we possibly can for you.
- Notify us by sending an original or certified copy of the Death Certificate.
Assuming the deceased was the sole account holder, the account would then be blocked pending further instructions. - Send a court sealed copy of the Grant of Probate (or Grant of Confirmation in Scotland) confirming the Executors for the Estate.
The Grant of Probate is issued upon the reading of the will. If there is no will, a close relative can apply for a Grant of Letters of Administration. The person assigned by the Grant of Probate is known as the executor, and up to four executors can be named. - The executors then need to complete our Executor/Administrator Account application form.
- Upon receipt of the court sealed copy of the Grant of Probate, we will be able to act upon signed written instruction from all Executors.
Go to www.direct.gov.uk for further details on how to apply for a Grant of Probate. There is a section on this site titled Death and Bereavement, which informs you how to proceed.

Notifying us that an account holder has passed away
A solicitor, next of kin or an executor of the estate can notify us that an account holder has passed away.
To register the death on the account we require written confirmation along with an original or certified copy of the death certificate.
Please send both documents stating the account number(s) (if known), to the following address:
interactive investor
2nd floor
One Embankment
Neville Street
Leeds

You can also return these documents by secure message if you have an ii account.
Copies of the death certificate can be certified by a FCA regulated body. For example, a bank or solicitor.
We will update all existing accounts that were in the sole name of the deceased and block the accounts from trading. This ensures that any current or future funds are held, pending receipt of legal documentation and further instructions from you. We will also send you information regarding probate applications and account valuations.
This also applies to any ISA and SIPP account that the customer may have had. If any additional information is required, we will notify you.
