FTSE for Friday: fireworks for FTSE 100 on Independence Day?

It's normally a quiet day on the UK stock exchange whenever America takes a day off. Independent analyst Alistair Strang looks at the odds of some decent moves this time.

For the FTSE 100, the UK index is regarded as being in an upward cycle, thought of as just messing around since the start of June while awaiting the correct set of circumstances to head up properly.

From a near-term perspective, it appears movements above 8,838 should next trigger gains to a useless 8,849 points with our secondary, if bettered, an ambitious 8,892 points.

If triggered, our suggested stop level is at 8,800  But we suspect it will be worth remembering the US is closed for Independence Day celebrations, with the result any movement above 8,849 risks fizzling out, the market doubtless intending to finish the day flat.

If trouble is expected, below 8,800 risks kicking off reversal to an initial 8,771 with our secondary, if broken, calculating at 8,744.

Our thoughts on the secondary target are doubtful, given an expectation the market shall end the day flat.

Have a good weekend.
